The documentary explores the former “Adriatic metropolises” of the Austro-Hungarian Empire – places where the economy and trade flourished, large warships anchored, but above many famous villas and summer residences of the “Who’s Who” of the 19th century were built. All of these magnificent architectural buildings tell about this “world”, this past time, when the monarchy’s rail network penetrated valleys and mountains and chauffeured the nobility, the successful middle class and artists to the Adriatic Coast. The noble ladies and gentlemen from the Empire brought a lot of culture, tradition, couture but above all visions and dreams. The first spas, hotels, seaside resorts and promenades emerged. A restaurant here, a coffee house there and in the middle a lot of celebrities, multiculturalism, and a lot of gossip in German, Hungarian, Slovenian, Croatian… This journey takes us to the hotspots of the legendary K. & K. Riviera such as Opatija, Grado, Trieste, Pula and Rijeka.
