“Dream Gardens of the Habsburg Dynasty” – a diversity shaped by different generations of the ruling dynasty. This two part documentary discovers these historic “green legacies”, which testify to both of Habsburgs’ devotion to garden art and their botanical interest. In addition to magnificent gardens, gigantic parks and amazing plant collections, there are also gardens of which only paintings or sketches remain.
While the first part deals with the gardens and parks of the royal city of Vienna, the second part of the documentary goes in search of the green traces of the ruling family in Austria and the Adriatic Coast. The film discovers green oases, worlds of wonder – from the English landscape garden to the baroque garden, from the garden as a dynastic place of representation to the personal retreat of the imperial family.
